- Notes
- TDS/SQL connection (port 1433) with Microsoft Entra authentication only; plain SQL username/password auth is not offered. Service principal mode uses Authentication=ActiveDirectoryServicePrincipal; in the documented ODBC string the credentials appear as UID=<Client_ID@domain>;PWD=<Secret>, so tenant is expressed via the domain suffix — tenant_id is included here as the conventional separate field (interpretation, hence medium). Prerequisites on the customer side: Fabric tenant setting 'Service principals can use Fabric APIs' enabled, and the SPN given a workspace role or item permission.
What you need at hand
| Field | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| SQL connection string (server) | SQL connection string of the warehouse or SQL analytics endpoint, copied from the item's Settings > SQL endpoint page. Looks like <unique-id>.datawarehouse.fabric.microsoft.com. |
| Database (warehouse name) | The warehouse or SQL analytics endpoint item name, used as the Initial Catalog when connecting. |
| Service principal client ID | Application (client) ID of the Microsoft Entra service principal granted access to the workspace or item. |
| Service principal client secret | Client secret of the Microsoft Entra service principal. |
| Microsoft Entra tenant ID | The Microsoft Entra tenant the service principal belongs to. |
